Hello Uncle T, I am 40-year-old married man living with my wife and 2 kids in Soweto, Johannesburg. My problem started 3 years ago when my wife got a new job to work at a private hospital and started seeing this rich guy who is young enough to be my son. I find out about their affair through her phone messages and she wouldn’t even deny it, not to mention stop the affair.

I decided to accept the fact that my wife is seeing this young man and there’s nothing I can do about it. However, this didn’t fix anything because this boy would drop my wife right at my gate and call me an old man! I don’t want to file for divorce because I have faith that this relationship won’t last, I know my wife, and it’s just infatuation.

But what hurts me the most are the names this boy calls me, they are seriously getting to me and are affecting my confidence as a man, what should I do? Anonymous – Johannesburg.

I respect the fact that you have accepted this budding romance between your spouse and this young man, but I feel that you are sacrificing your happiness over someone who clearly doesn’t respect you at all. I fail to understand why you should allow yourself to go through such heartache because of love… yes you love your wife, but does that mean you should stand her young lover’s insults?

I can give you advice on how to stay strong and keep your head up throughout the young man’s critics, but how is that going to help restore your dignity as a man? The only solution to all this craziness is to sit your wife down and tell her to end her circus relationship for the sake of your wedding vows. If she refuses, then I am sorry to tell you that it’s about time you put your happiness and health first before hers, you deserve better!
