2019 Hyundai Elantra SR Turbo revealed

Hyundai has revealed the Avante Sport for the South Korean market, previewing the facelifted Elantra SR Turbo for global markets.

Like the regular range, the Avante Sport gets a re-skinned body – this time wearing more sporting equipment inside and out.

Headlining features include a black sports mesh front grille, larger brakes nestled behind new 18-inch alloy wheels, a subtle body kit, chromed twin exhaust finisher, multi-link rear suspension, carbon-fibre-look interior trim, sports seats available in black or red leather, and a flat-bottom perforated leather sports steering wheel.

While not explicitly stated on the company’s Korean website, the Avante Sport should carry over the updated model’s new infotainment and driver-assistance systems, representing a meaningful step forward on the ageing current car.

Power still comes from a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, making 150kW of power and 265Nm of torque, driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission shared with the i30 SR and Kia Cerato/Forte GT.

The new Elantra Sport is due in North America shortly, with pricing to kick off at US$22,400 ($31,037) with a six-speed manual transmission.
