Not content with just dominating world music and getting involved in fashion, superstar Black Coffee is also out to conquer the movie world.
The star recently lent his talent to local comedian Kagiso Lediga’s new movie Matwetwe as executive producer on the project.
Matwetwe tells the coming of age story of two best friends who have just finished matric and have one hell of New Years Eve in Atteridgeville. Their adventures include: scoring a huge deal, dodging a kingpin gangster and winning over a girl.
Matwetwe officially opens in local cinemas early next year but made its premiere at the Inaugural Africa Rising Movie Festival recently.
Kagiso said that it was an incredible moment for all those associated with the movie.
“To have the movie get such a great reaction has been awesome. There were beautiful people there and it was great to see all our hard work finally on screen and being appreciated.”
He explained that Black Coffee was a massive reason for the movie’s success.
“He is the executive producer. He helped finance the project and also gave creative input. He has been great and even helped with the soundtrack.”
Although he wouldn’t spill details on how much money Black Coffee contributed, Kagiso revealed that the collaboration started when he approached Black Coffee to get involved in the movie.
“I asked him and he said I should send him something to show him what it was about. It blew him away and he got involved. He’s been hands-on since and it’s been great to work with him.”
Rapper Cassper Nyovest has been promoting the movie, leading to speculation that he too was part of the soundtrack, but Kagiso wants to make it clear that this is not the case.
“I saw that he was mentioned by some people talking about the movie but he is not part of it. He supports it, which we appreciate, but he’s not on the soundtrack.
