Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry and The Weeknd lead this year’s MTV Video Music Award nominations!

We know it is not advisable for someone to count their chickens before they hatch, but by the look of things, Kendrick Lamar has every right to do that. The Compton rapper leads this year’s MTV Video Music Award nominations with eight nods for his “HUMBLE.” video, the network announced on Tuesday (July 25), including video of the year, artist of the year and best hip-hop video of the year.

Meanwhile, Katy Perry and The Weeknd follow Lamar with five nominations each for the Aug. 27 event. This year’s award show has done away with gendered categories, such as best female video and best male video, and combined them for the all-encompassing artist of the year award.

As well, the best fight against the system category has been added to celebrate videos that shine a light on social injustices, including Logic, Big Sean, Alessia Cara, John Legend and others among its nominees. Fans can vote now for eight VMA categories, including video of the year, artist of the year, best collaboration and more by visiting www.vma.mtv.com.

Nominees for the socially voted best song of summer category will be announced at a later date. The MTV Video Music Awards will air live from The Forum in Inglewood, California, on Aug. 27 at 8 p.m. ET. See the complete list of nominees below.
