Celebrities commemorate Human Rights Day!

Human Rights Day is a national day that is commemorated annually on 21 March to remind South Africans about the sacrifices that accompanied the struggle for the attainment of democracy in South Africa.

As interviewed by Drum magazine, some of our celebrities had a lot to say/do on this historic day.

South African radio producer and actress Motsoaledi Setumo.

“I’m one person who doesn’t wait for a specific day to do something every day is like a public holiday to me in doing good for the community,” she says “I’m involved in the NGO called Lead a young woman so I’ll be busy preparing for the event that we are having in Kagiso, Westrand on the 2nd of April, to help young girls in growing their self confident and self esteem,” Motsoaledi told Drum.

Poet and actress Ntsiki Mazwai

“It’s Important for people to that it is not Human Rights day, it is Sharpeville day,” She said. “We should make sure that our history is not erased,” Ntsiki added.

Presenter and actor Sthembiso “SK” Khoza

“I’m shooting as usual but I haven’t forgot the thing that people did for this day, people like Neslon Mandela, Walter Sisulu and Oliver Tambo. If it wasn’t for them we wouldn’t have been here where we are today,” SK said.

Actress and TV presenter Boitumelo Thulo

“I’m spending my day with my family in Potchefstroom, since it has been a while since I last saw them,” says Boity

Actress Zikhona Sodlaka

“I’m shooting today but is it happens that I finish early, I’ll go to museum for the very first time in my life though I’m not ready because I don’t know what reaction I’ll have,” she said. “I have a friend who works at The South African Human Rights Commission, she told me that there are over Fifthly human rights and I got shocked that I can’t even name three at least,” Zikhona adds.
