QUEEN B HITS A LOW NOTE ON RADIO

SHE was fired from Metro FM last year, but Bonang Matheba is a die-hard . . .

After begging and pleading with the bigwigs at the SABC and her mum’s intervention, she was reinstated a few months later. But today we have learnt that Bonang Matheba’s show at the station is hanging by a thread.

This emerged as DJs at the station begin negotiations for new contracts next month.  Our source has confirmed that “Queen B”, as Bonang is popularly known, might not be running the show. She might not even be the presenter of Front Row any more.

Several sources close to the situation said Queen B was warned about her “manly” voice – she should either control it or lose it. The show’s ratings have not hit the roof since she took over.  Claimed the source:  “She’s been in trouble with the bosses many times about her voice.” The source added that Bonang can’t do anything about her voice. Another source said they want to bring back Azania Mosaka because the two radio personalities who took over the show after she left, have failed to maintain the current listenership or attract more listeners.

The source claimed Metro FM bosses realised they’ve made a mistake by letting Azania go. “She was the show. Bonang and Siphokazi were too young for the show. Bonang will be good with Touch – they both have the energy,” said the source. Another source said they might keep or reshuffle Bonang even though her ratings are not high as her show generates a lot of income for the station.

“The fact that B is on Top Billing also helps her. She brings a crossover of viewers and advertisers to the station.” About her mum’s intervention, the source said: “People are jealous of Bonang. They must let her be. She’ll kick their asses.”
