After only five months on our TV screens, Zulu drama Uzalo has taken the top spot away from Generations
For over a decade, popular soapie Generations has held its own in the prime-time slot. No shows on SABC or any rival channels have ever come close to equaling the show’s viewership numbers.
Even after 16 of the soapie’s main actors were fired last year, and the production company had to start afresh with new show and new cast, Generations: The Legacy remained one of the most watched shows on SABC1.
On Monday, for the first time in over 15 years, Generations was outshone, with SABC’s new drama Uzalo earning higher viewership figures. According to TV SA ratings, from Monday 8 June to 14 June Uzalo enjoyed a viewership of 5 563 000, while Generations: The Legacy’s figures sat at 5 471 000. Mfundi Vundla must have had a panic attack when he saw the numbers
Although Generations: The Legacy may well climb back up to the number one spot, Uzalo‘s achievement, taking the top spot after only five months on screen, is an important milestone.
