Hip hop rapper and producer P Diddy has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in LA

The alleged incident occurred on the University of California campus on Monday afternoon, where his son is on the football team, police said.

The weapon in question was a kettlebell, which is used for weight training.

Jail records show Diddy – whose real name is Sean Combs – was released on bail on Monday evening.

Officials did not identify the victim of the assault or say what led to the incident.

In a statement, campus police said no-one was seriously injured but just an 'Unfortunate incident'

Combs' son Justin Combs had been working out on the campus. He has played just a handful of games for the UCLA football team since joining three years ago.

Snoop Dogg's son Cordell Broadus also plays on the same team.

Combs' representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

It is not the first time Combs has found himself in trouble with the authorities over his conduct.

Combs apologised, the charges were reduced, and he was ordered to attend an anger management class.He is out on bail
