Oscar Pistorius, Reeva Steenkamp’s killer won’t have to wear an electronic tracker like other criminals when he is freed from jail on Friday.
“No, absolutely not,” correctional services spokesman Logan Maistry said yesterday.
The ex-track star is one of the 3 400 people to be released under correctional supervision after serving a sixth of their jail terms.
Pistorius has served 10 months of his five-year term for shooting and killing his girlfriend Reeva.
But Maistry stressed and explained that this didn’t mean his five-year term was reduced.
There’s an overall of 60 000 convicts under correctional supervision, including parolees.
Alcohol, drugs and contacting certain people are banned for them and they must stay within a magisterial district.
However they can work and take part in community programmes to help restore relations with the community at large – New24
