"I am here to admit that I am HIV positive,"
Hollywood star and former Two and a Half Men actor, Charlie Sheen has disclosed that he is living with HIV on US television, NBC’s Today Show.
The star revealed that he decided to go public with his status to finally bring to an end the endless payments that ran into millions of dollars he had to pay to people to keep them from going public about his status.
The star went on to also say: "I have to put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths," as he disclosed that he was diagnosed four years ago.
The television star told Matt Lauer, the host of the show that problems began when he revealed his status to friends “the truth became treason” leading to "blackmail and extortion and a circle of deceit"
It seems the very people he trusted were willing to exploit his secret for their own means by threatening to go public with his status to the media.
The star, who is recovering from alcohol and substance abuse, is confident that by him coming out the media speculation will die down.
According to his doctor, Robert Huizenga who was also on the show alongside him, he is very disciplined and living a healthy and balanced lifestyle as well as taking his medication strictly and that is the reason why he doesn’t have any detection of the AIDS virus, as he was responding to rumours that Charlie has AIDS.
Charlie Sheen who was fired from two And A Half Men admitted that initially he felt ashamed and angry at the diagnosis, and that could have possibly led to his abuse of substances and alcohol, but now that he has since accepted his status he would like to inspire and help many other people struggling to come to terms with their own status. We EntertainmentSA commend the star for being so brave as to go public with his status; it is very rare for actors to take such a bold stand.
