US hip hop star Mos Def‚ real name Dante Terrell Smith‚ has been arrested in Cape Town‚ for not having a valid passport on Thursday.

According to Home Affairs ministerial spokesperson, Mr Smith has been living in SA with his family without the necessary permits and has been given 14 days to leave following his arrest.

The performer is believed to have moved to Cape Town in 2009 that’s according to Rolling Stone magazine.

Entertainment SA has learned from sources that last year Mos Def, cancelled a planned tour of the States due to what his advertisers called “legal and immigration issues”.
