It must be pretty hard for the internationally acclaimed/ nationally accused South African artist Zwelethu Mthethwa this time of the year…who wouldn’t, with such burdening accusations?
Just yesterday, Zwelethu Mthethwa appeared briefly in the Western Cape high court for a heinous crime… murder!
ENCA reported that Mthethwa pleaded not guilty for kicking to death vulnerable 23-year-old sex worker Nokuphila Kumalo in Woodstock, Cape Town, in April 2013.
Currently out on R100 000 bail, Mthethwa’s court show – up took less than 30 minutes as Judge Patricia Goliath postponed the case until Wednesday.
Apparently, senior forensic pathologist Dr Linda Liebenberg, who happens to be testifying for the state, needed some quality time to read documents emailed to her on Sunday night.
A cardiologist, also a professor from the University of Cape Town sent the information to Liebenberg, and state prosecutor Christenus van der Vijver said she may need to refer to the documents when she takes the stand again on Wednesday.
The issue at hand is the mystery of Khumalo’s death on 14 April 2013.
Liebenberg has proven by testifying that ‘’commotio cordis’’ is the result of this tragedy, which in simple terms refers to cardiac arrest caused by a blow directly to the area of the heart.
In the stands on the said date, a Zimbabwean who requires an interpreter is also expected to testify.
