Who on earth has ever imagined that a mere bottle of wine can score R1.3-million?…Well!!! It just did and Tbo Touch is the main man behind this amazing news.
The antique cabernet sauvignon bottle was auctioned at The AfriAsia Cape Wine Auction at Klein Constantia farm in Cape Town over the weekend. The aim of this auction is to raise money to help educate the youth of the Western Cape.
The bidding for the 750ml bottle opened at R50000 with over 100 hands in the air. As auctioneer Dan Nicoll reached the R800000 mark, the tension in the room mounted, leaving just four contenders to battle it out.
In the end it was businessman Sello Rasethaba, executive director at Mediterranean Shipping Company, who made history and coughed up the R1.3-million – the highest price for a bottle of wine in South Africa at an auction.
I guess it’s true when they say there’s a first time to everything…
According to reports 2016 AfriAsia Cape Wine Auction managed to raise a total of R15-million which is for education in Western Cape.
