It has been reported that 90’s international R&B and pop star, Mariah Carey, who landed in the country on Monday and who is due to perform her first show in Mother City tonight is living up to her diva antics and demands.
She’s been in the country for barely 48-hours and she has reportedly demanded that the Table Mountain be lit purple during her performance, this according to a source, is because she wants to pay tribute to Prince, who unexpectedly died last week.
Although according to a report by The Mercury, Table Mountain's floodlights can be turned on in cases where the cause is of “particular cultural, historical or traditional significance for the people of Cape Town or South Africa”. The city requires that all requests must be made 20 days in advance, which organisers of the concert didn’t do because it wasn’t something that was specified in the singer’s rider, until she landed.
However, the singer didn’t stop there, she has requested that her change room and hotel room be stocked with coconut water from a specific region, which she had not initially placed on her rider request.
Mariah's Cape Town concert kicks off at the Cape Town stadium tonight before she heads to Durban for the second leg of her SA tour and then finally Johannesburg for two more shows.
Organisers of the concert, Big Concerts, have revealed that the final stage set-up in Cape Town is well underway.
