Local artists, Cassper Nyovest, AKA and Black Coffee will go up against each other at this year’s prestigious BET Awards in Los Angeles next month.
The trio have all been nominated for the BET’s and are expected to compete for the Best International Act: Africa category at the awards, to be held on June 26 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
The three local acts will also be facing competition from the likes of Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Mzvee (Ghana), Serge Beynaud (Cote d’lvoire) and Nigerian superstar Wizkid.
Taking to social media to share his excitement, Cassper said that he was honoured by the nomination.
"Look at God!!! Words cannot express how grateful I am to have such a loving God!!! All the glory to him!!! Let's bring the first South African BET home!!! This is for all the independent artists out there!!! For all the African kids with a dream!!!," he wrote.
On the other hand, for the first time in history, AKA had less to say, "Wow, THANK YOU!’’ He exclaimed.
Both AKA and Nyovest were nominated for a BET Award last year, AKA in the Best International Act category and Cassper in the Viewers' Choice Best International Act, and neither one of them won in their categories…. Let’s hope this year they do.
