Hlaudi Motsoeneng calls for more local music on the airwaves!

If you were listening to radio on Thursday, you might have heard that all 18 of SABC’s radio stations were playing a lot more local music than usual; the reason for this is because the COO of SABC has called for more local content on the airwaves.

SABC boss, Hlaudi Motsoeneng announced that all its public broadcasting stations would switch to 90% local music from Thursday.

The call for 90% local content by the COO was inspired by the fact that radio stations across the country all play international music more than local music. The public received the news very positively as did local celebs and even political parties.

The ANC’s national spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, said in a statement about this: “The groundbreaking decision by the public broadcaster follows an important and successful consultative process with various representatives of the music industry throughout the length and breadth of the country”.

Local musicians; AKA and K.O also welcomed the news with the following tweets:

“@akaworldwide the greatest victory in the history of the South African music industry,"

“@MrCashtime Never too late to rectify things/restore order… We appreciate the public broadcaster's move with the quota. Two

    thumbs up!”

Entertainment-SA applauds Mr Motsoeneng’s bold move and we hope that in time local can indeed be lekker!
