RISA, The organisers of the South African Music Association, (SAMA), have revealed that they will confer DJ Blackcoffee, Nkosinathi Maphumulo, with an International Achievement Award at this year's 22nd Annual South African Music Awards ceremony which will be held on Saturday, 4 June 2016 at the Durban ICC.
The organisers of the event have recognised the talented musos rising star and his efforts of taking local music to the international stages.
The Durban-born SA music maestro made an appearance a few weeks ago at the Coachella Music Experience in California, Los Angeles, where he was highly praised. He recently released his album, in April, Come With Me to a global audience and it was well received. The music maestro is currently living in the states, Los Angeles, with his family while he is working on a new album and tours Europe frequently.
Speaking to the media about this DJ Blackcoffee had this to say: “I’m truly honoured by this great gesture. What makes it really special for me is that from the beginning I’ve always wanted to follow in the footsteps of Bra Hugh Masekela, Johnny Clegg, DJ Mbuso, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Busi Mhlongo, the late Lucky Dube and Miriam Makeba to name a few,”.
