Fans of Nollywood productions should get excited for the hottest new TV show; a Black woman and female-led tv series – The Smart Money Woman Series. Starting September 16, Netflix will begin streaming the first TV series for women of color focused on financial literacy. To get a taste of what’s ahead, brace yourself and check out the trailer from the title:
Executive produced and created by Arese Ugwu, based on the book of the same name the series features some of Africa’s best and brightest including Osas Ighodaro (Rattlesnake) , Toni Tones (King of Boys) , Ini Dima Okojie (Who’s the Boss ), Lala Akindoju (Berlinale selection Eyimofe ‘This is My Desire’ , Òlòturé) , Eby Eno (Game On) and Timini Egbuson (Elevator Baby). The series is produced by Arese Ugwu and Isoken Ogiemwonyi for Smart Tribe Media , Lala Akindoju for The Make It Happen Productions and Akin ‘Marine’ Marinho for Arcadia Media.
Meet Zuri. She’s living a fabulous life. Great car, gorgeous apartment, well paid job. Meet Zuri again. Broken down car, an apartment she cant afford, a job she’s about to lose. What’s a broke girl to do.? With her best friends Tami (the flighty fashion designer), Lara (the tough oil and gas executive), Adesuwa (the conservative lawyer), and Ladun (the fabulous housewife), Zuri grows a little, learns a lot and navigates her way to making better financial decisions and building wealth.
With each episode ending with specific financial subject matter including debt, spending triggers, handling money fears amongst others, the show easily builds discussion points around personal finance and wealth building for the African millennial.

In telling stories that provide a real-world look at women staring down their financial challenges, while navigating friendships and relationship dynamics and planning for the future, “The Smart Money Woman” tells a relatable story with an empowering and educative spin.
“The Smart Money Woman” premieres globally on September 16 on Netflix.
