Man United fires Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

After another humiliating defeat by Watford on Saturday, Manchester United have decided to sack manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian manager made a plea to stay after apologising to fans for yet another disappointing display. Speaking to press post-match, Ole insisted he could turn things around at the club.

Ole advocated for captain Harry Maguire after the disgruntled captain was given a red card.

Watford defeated Man United 4-0 at Vicarage Road after a two week international break. The loss is United’s fourth in the last 5 games of the English Premier League.

According to reports the club have decided on Darren Fletcher as interim manager.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had just one victory in his last seven league fixtures in charge of the Man United with a 3-0 win away at Tottenham on 30 October. His future was discussed during an emergency board meeting on Saturday evening.

Speculation around the club’s future management pins Zinedine Zidane as his potential successor.

As reported in The Times, the club’s owners have been in contact with the former Real Madrid boss. Zidane is a former French footballer who is considered one of the most successful coaches presently.

While the club is optimistic that they are close to securing him, he is said to be reluctant to join Man United mid-season.

Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that more details around Ole’s dismissal will follow once the paperwork has been finalised.

The club is expected to release an official statement shortly.

Solskjaer was head of the club for almost 3 trophy-less years. In the interim, Darren Fletcher who is currently technical director at Man United, will lead the club until a permanent solution is made.
