Here’s who’ll be on the airwaves as local radio stations announce big changes

The public broadcaster announced its new radio lineup on the 1st of April 2022, which saw a few changes, including new additions to their line up such as Metro FM onboarding Tbo, Radio 2000 will be introducing a new holistic lifestyle living talk show ‘Life, Love and All’ and YFM adding fresh talent like Caddy and Dimpho Mokgotho.

The local radio stations have introduce a star-studded team of familiar voices to bolster the already growing audience of theri stations. check them out below::

Radio 2000

From 1 April 2022, Mmatsheko Mosito will set the tone for the day with a new show ‘Rhythm at Dawn’ weekdays between 04h00 and 06h00. The show will be a blend of music, conversation, inspirational sounds and information for all early risers.

The weekday 06h00-18h00 time slot remains unchanged, with the award-winning breakfast show ‘The Take Off’ hosted by Bongani Mtolo, Nonala Tose and Lonwabo Nkohla on sports duties from 06h00 to 09h00. Ntombi Meso hosts ‘Better Together’ from 09h00-12h00 whose content focuses on lifestyle of the audience. ‘The Royal Playground’ will be hosted by the king himself David Mashabela from 12h00–15h00, whilst the ‘Glenzito Super Drive’ will be anchored by the energetic team of Glen Lewis, Nathi Ndamase and Lelo Mzaca on sports drive from 15h00 – 18h00. Andile Ncube returns for ‘Sports Night Live’, 18h00 to 19h00 Monday- Friday.

Motsweding FM

Motsweding FM’s breakfast show, which is broadcast from 06h00-09h00 Monday to Friday, will see a new team anchoring the show. Legendary award-winning radio broadcaster Douglas “D Mos” Mosadi, who is no stranger to Motsweding FM as he previously served the radio station for 17 years makes his return with this slot. “D Mos” has managed to rebrand himself over the years and remains a well-respected Setswana personality, popular on social media.

Stella Sebalo will join D Mos as co-host. She brings a wealth of experience in quality output of Setswana content and she also enjoys a wide social media following through her involvement in community radio stations and as a language activist. The cherry on top is the addition of seasoned award-winning content producer, Essence Maumakwe. His content production experience and creativity will add to what is going to become the best breakfast show in public broadcasting.

The 09h00-12h00 and 12h00-15h00 shows, will now be presented by Mokopi Molebatsi and Amon Mokoena respectively. Amon Mokoena brings with him a plethora of skills that are much needed for daytime radio. Mokopi Molebatsi is a well-rounded broadcaster, having worked for community, PBS and commercial radio stations. She is one of the few female Setswana Broadcasters of the current generation. Her love for culture, language, and music will complement the show.

Metro FM

METRO FM will on Friday, 1 April 2022, shake the South African airwaves as it debuts its new line up for 2022/23. Mpumi Mlambo, tasked with ensuring the audience transitions from midnight into early morning, is the host of the new show ‘Hustlers Fix’ that will broadcast Mondays to Fridays from 02:00 – 05:00. Mpumi is a passionate broadcaster and will make sure METRO FM listeners have a great start to their day.

Moeti ‘Moflava’ Tsiki will be joined by one of South Africa’s dynamic and influential stars, Khutso Theledi on the METRO FM Breakfast show, weekdays from 05:00 – 09:00. The 12:00 – 15:00 weekday time slot receives a refresh as Lerato ‘LKG’ Kganyago is joined by Tebogo ’Proverb’ Thekisho on the Midday Link Up with LKG and Proverb. Proverb is a seasoned broadcaster with experience in both television and radio and will bring another fresh element to the show.

The station is pleased to announce the new afternoon drive show, The Touchdown with Tbo Touch which will be presented by Thabo ‘Tbo Touch’ Molefe who is back and better than ever. The show will broadcast weekdays from 15:00 -18:00. A well experienced sports presenter, Morena Mothupi will be joining the team to do the sports segment. This new show promises to be high energy, fast paced and engaging.

Mpho ‘Mo G’ Madise takes over the Monday to Thursday, 21:00 – 00:00 timeslot as he delivers, Let’s talk about it. This show will bring life to this night-time time channel , a combination of light talk fused with music to keep you company as you burn the midnight oil. METRO FM welcomes Ryan ‘Ryan the DJ’ Nair as he joins The Urban Beat, Fridays and Saturdays at 22:00 – 00:00. METRO FM has an all-new weekend breakfast show, Weekend Breakfast Sounds Good with Mat-Elle & Mantsoe. A fresh breakfast club with the girls to make sure that you wake up every Saturday morning with a smile.

Ukhozi FM

The station’s breakfast show gains an additional 30 minutes and will now broadcast from Monday to Friday between 06h00-09h00 and no longer 06h30-09h00. Sipho “DJ Sgqemeza” Mbatha and Nonhlanhla “Mroza “Buthelezi will continue to host this show following its success in the past year. The breakfast team will be joined by Mhlonishwa Sibisi who will be responsible for sport content.

Dudu “Lady D” Khoza, the Queen of the Airwaves maintains her 09h00-12h00 slot where she will continue to bring audiences what they have come to love for the past 27 years.

The 12h30-15h00 slot welcomes Sfiso “King Sfiso” Sibiya as well as Zimiphi “Zim-Dollar” Biyela. Khathide “Tshatha” Ngobe rejoins Selby “Selbeyonce” Mkhize in the afternoon drive between 15h00-18h00 in the popular drive time slot.

Thobela FM

The Morning drive show, ‘Ditlalemeso’ will now be broadcast for three hours from 06h00 – 09h00 between Monday and Friday. Lenny T Legodi and Poelano “Madam Speaker” Setoaba will continue hosting the show, with Aubrey Pheeha joining the team on production. Pheeha has been producing the station’s lifestyle show ‘E ba Lenna’. Pheeha brings in a wealth of experience and expertise to the team having produced the station’s various shows over the past eight (8) years.

‘E ba le nna’, a show introduced for the first-time last year – airing from Monday to Friday between 13h00 – 15h00, will continue with its focus on continental issues, service delivery, economic matters, the empowerment of men and women, and labourers in the formal and informal sectors. The show will still be hosted by the well vested Nkgadimeng Kekana with a new producer, Lorraine Mahlo.

Thobela FM has increased the night talk show, ‘Moremogolo’ running hours from 22h00 – 01h00 for four days in a week due to listener’s demand. Happiness Maake continues to host the show unpacking all the uncomfortable conversations that build the societal moral compass.

The station is bringing the vibrant, elegant and bubbly Lethabo “Lejoy” Mathatho to host the stations hybrid radio meets TV show ‘the weekend breakfast’. This show will be produced by the award-winning producer Isaac Mashila. The show will feature on Thobela FM’s digital platforms.

Kgabo “The C-Lecta boy” Mokgonyana will now host Thobela FM’s ‘Top 30’ charts show on Saturday’s. Mokgonyana has been hosting ‘Party Time’ and producing the ‘Ditlameso’ breakfast show.

Skhumbuzo “The immaculate” Mbatha will now mesmerise the audience on Sunday’s on ‘Melodii Ya Boiketlo’ playing all the soulful sounds.
