South African cricket national team skipper, Temba Bavuma has heaped praise on his teammates for a job well done in their victory over India.
Bavuma guided his troops to a T20 win over their hosts, saying the batsmen were
exceptional.
The Proteas recorded a four-wicket victory over India in the second T20
international on Sunday and as they needed 149 runs to clinch their second
successive T20 win over the hosts, wicketkeeper Heinrich Klassen mashed an
impressive fourth T20 half-century before going on to score an impressive 81 runs off 46 balls – achieving the target in just 18.2 overs.
Addressing the media after the hard-fought win, the nippy captain said the team
was on point on the day, as bowler Kagiso Rabada notched his 50th T20 wicket.
“It was a good night for us, we got the result that we wanted. I think it obviously
started with the bowling – the way we started up front was exactly how we wanted,” he said.
“We wanted to be ruthless with the new ball, hit that area a bit [to] exploit whatever is there in the wicket and try and get some early wickets upfront.
“I think we were able to apply the pressure throughout the innings and whenever
wickets fell, that really worked in our favour.
“With the batting as well, it could have been a lot more clinical I think, probably at the end, but we’ll take the result – fantastic innings by ‘Klaasie’, fantastic ball striking from him.
“So another win in the bag for us, the next game is upon us, it’s a quick
turnaround… We’ll prepare as well as we can for the next game.”
Bavuma singled out David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen for their sensational display, saying the two batsmen are key for the team.
“David, we can use him at five or six. Him obviously being a left-hander, it helps in the end. Klaasen is someone who can with a couple of balls do a lot of damage,” added the skipper.
“Klaasen has shown there he adds a lot of value to our batting. It’s about whatever your role is, whatever the situation is, execute as well as you can.”
Looking at the next assignment, the South Africans will now move on to
Visakhapatnam for the third of the five-match series at the ACA-VDCA Stadium on Tuesday at 15:30 (SA time)
