Manqoba Mngqithi rumoured to be on his way out of Sundowns

Despite his contribution at Mamelodi Sundowns, senior coach Manqoba Mngqithi could be on his way out of the club.

Media reports coming through to Entertainment SA suggest that the former Golden Arrows and AmaZulu mentor might not see his contract renewed at Chloorkop.

As things stand, his current contract runs until June 30 but the club is yet to sit down and discuss an extension with the seasoned manager.

Mngqithi’s future remains a subject of speculation and Sunday World reports that there are no talks to renew his contract.

It is reported that Mngqithi was this week linked to rivals Orlando Pirates and he was recently linked with a move to KwaZulu-Natal club Royal AM.

This speculation comes after current coach Rulani Mokwena introduced changes in his technical team and considering the fact that Mngqithi was demoted in October.

Since Mokwena’s appointment, there were changes in the bench when Riedoh Berdien (strength and conditioning coach) and Marcus Mashilo (assistant goalkeeper coach) were sent packing from a camp in Polokwane, forcing the coach to drop a hint that there would be more changes given the fact that he’s now in charge.

“For sure, because the club has given me an opportunity for which I’m extremely grateful, and they have given me the support for which I am extremely grateful. And my role is to reward them and repay that,” said Mokwena.

“Part of that is knowing I need a very strong team around me because I cannot do it alone, and that means, for sure, in the interim, is to move in a direction that the club wants to move in.”

Representing Mngqithi is Mike Makaab of ProSport International who didn’t mince his words and said his client is focused on the job at hand. “Manqoba remains fully committed to Sundowns,” he said.
