Analyst: Mamelodi Sundowns blamed for plotting against Al Ahly

Mamelodi Sundowns are criticised for helping Al Hilal as they planned to ensure that Egyptian side Al Ahly is out of the CAF Champions League.

That is the view expressed by an Egyptian television analyst, Khaled Bauomy who believes that Sundowns were trying to help Hilal in an attempt to eliminate the Red Devils from the continental tournament.

Hilal played an entertaining 1-1 draw against the South Africans on Matchday five of the CAF Champions League group stage in Omdurman.

The Sudanese side’s victory against group B leaders could have confirmed Al Ahly’s elimination, however, a late penalty save from Ronwen Williams kept the Red Devils hopes alive.

Bauomy believes that the South African side wanted to eliminate Ahly and tried everything to help Hilal secure their place in the quarter-finals

“Sundowns did everything to help Al Hilal qualify and eliminate Africa’s bogeyman Al Ahly,” Bauomy said on his Twitter account.

“However, God’s will and the prayers of Al Ahly fans stood against the desire of Sun Downs.

“Soon, the response to heaven’s justice will be seen in the stadium that all Africa fears, the Cairo International Stadium.”

Meanwhile, the Red Devils are currently preparing to meet Al-Hilal in a crucial match that will determine who will join Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League.

As reported by Entertainment SA, Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena took the blame for the stalemate in Omdurman.

Mokwena led his side to a 1-1 stalemate in their fifth CAF Champions League encounter and brushed off the claims made by Egyptian media in the build-up to the fixture.

The Brazilians and Hilal draw in the searing heat of Omdurman on Saturday afternoon with Khuliso Mudau and Mohamed Abdelrahman on the scoresheet.

Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was disposed for the equaliser but made up for his mistake by saving a last-minute penalty – an effort that kept Al Ahly in the competition going into the final game.
