Lady Gaga has created her own version of Harley Quinn.
On Saturday, the singer, 36, was spotted filming sequences for the upcoming Joker sequel, Joker: Folie à Deux, in New York City.
She shot sequences for the film in Manhattan’s City Hall, where she was joined by hundreds of extras who stood on the stairs.
Gaga appeared in costume as the DC Comics star, sporting a red jacket, a black and white striped shirt, a black skirt, and mesh black leggings.
The “Hold My Hand” singer had her long blonde hair slicked back and red clown paint around her eyes.
Back in June 2022, PEOPLE revealed Gaga’s involvement in the Joker sequel, stating that she was in discussions to portray Harley. The Hollywood Reporter broke the story first.
Gaga subsequently announced her involvement in August, tweeting an animated teaser video of herself and Joaquin Phoenix dancing to old-timey music.
Phoenix, 48, plays the iconic Batman villain the Joker in the picture, while Gaga plays his lifelong henchwoman and love interest, whom the nasty joker first met when she worked as his psychiatrist at Gotham City’s Arkham Hospital.
Harley was developed for the renowned 1992 Saturday morning series Batman: The Animated Series, and she rapidly became a fan favourite, transitioning from the TV screen to the comic book page.
Warner Bros shared the official first look photograph of Gaga and Phoenix in Joker: Folie à Deux earlier this year to commemorate Valentine’s Day.
The photo, which Gaga uploaded on social media, shows Gaga and Phoenix minutes after a passionate kiss, her red lipstick splattered all over his face.
Margot Robbie previously played Harley Quinn in the 2016 film Suicide Squad and its 2021 sequel The Suicide Squad, as well as the character’s own spinoff film, Birds of Prey (2020).
The actress, 32, has since given Gaga her blessing for stepping into the role. “It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor,” she told MTV in October.
Joker: Folie à Deux is scheduled to be released in theaters on Oct. 4, 2024.
