Comedian Mike Epps has issued an apology to his fans after Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers discovered a loaded gun.
Identified as Smith & Wesson .38-caliber pistol, the firearm was found in his backpack at the Indianapolis International Airport.
In a video posted to Instagram, Epps acknowledged that he always carries a gun with him but wanted to apologise for the negative attention surrounding the incident.
He explained that he had forgotten about the weapon following a long night in Indianapolis where he hosted a show with D.L. Hughley and Cedric the Entertainer.
While Epps was not arrested at the scene, he could still face charges as the Marion County prosecutor’s office is investigating the matter.
However, the spokesman for the office, Michael Leffler, said that charges are unlikely as the burden of proof required by statute and case law requires proving whether an individual knowingly or intentionally brought the firearm.
Usually, firearms found by TSA or airport police are unintentionally left in bags.
In the video, Epps defended his decision to carry a gun, stating that it was for his own defence. He also encouraged his supporters to stay safe and to protect themselves, especially if they carried money or jewelry on them.
Epps said that he was still on some positive vibes and apologised for the incident. He concluded by saying that “the world is crazy, and it is essential to stay strapped.”
The incident highlights the importance of adhering to TSA regulations, which prohibit passengers from bringing firearms on board airplanes.
According to TSA data, a record 6,542 guns were intercepted at US airport security checkpoints in 2022.
The TSA rules are clear and straightforward, and passengers are encouraged to check the TSA website or consult with TSA officers at the airport for guidance on what items are prohibited.
In conclusion, the incident involving Mike Epps and the loaded gun in his backpack at the Indianapolis International Airport is a reminder of the importance of adhering to TSA regulations.
It also highlights the need for individuals to take their safety seriously and to protect themselves.
Epps has apologised for the incident and urged his supporters to stay safe and protect themselves.
It remains to be seen whether he will face any charges as a result of the incident.
