Antony’s Persistence Pays Off: Man Utd’s win over Nottingham Forest

Antony, Manchester United’s £86 million signing from Ajax, scored his first Premier League goal in 15 games against Nottingham Forest before setting up Diogo Dalot to secure United’s 2-0 victory at the City Ground. Despite his inconsistent performance this season, former United defender Gary Neville recognised Antony’s potential and suggested the club should continue to support and persist with him. Antony has the potential to be a great player for the team if he can improve his decision-making and consistency in the final third.

Antony has struggled to find the back of the net since scoring three goals in his first three Premier League appearances for United, his most recent strike coming in the win over Forest. Nonetheless, the Brazilian’s potential was on display in his performance against Forest, where he scored a goal, assisted on another, and was a constant threat to the opponent. His start in the game wasn’t ideal, but he improved as the game progressed.

Antony is making progress, according to United manager Erik ten Hag, but he needs to make better decisions in the final third. United require more goal scorers, and Antony has demonstrated his ability to be one, scoring nine goals in all competitions thus far. Ten Hag was persuaded by his performances in the Dutch top flight to demand that United pay nearly £90 million to bring him to Old Trafford.

Antony’s goals this season have been impressive, with left-footed strikes against Arsenal and Everton bent past the goalkeeper from inside the area, and a whipped goal into the far corner from the edge of the box against Manchester City. His goal against Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, was far less spectacular, a tap-in from a rebound after Keylor Navas saved Anthony Martial’s shot. Nonetheless, former Manchester United captain Roy Keane praised him for being in the right position to take such a risk.

Antony, according to Keane, needs to do more of the fundamentals, such as following shots and releasing the ball at the right time to see where his teammates are. Antony’s output is lagging behind what he produced during his two years at Ajax. While he is undoubtedly playing in a more difficult competition now that he has moved from Serie A to the Premier League, Antony must continue to increase the number of goals and assists he provides for United.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink urged Antony to emulate Mohamed Salah, who scored 30 goals for Liverpool when the club won the Premier League in 2020. To make an impact in the Premier League, Antony needs to score more goals and create more goals. To reach his full potential as a United player, the Brazilian must improve his consistency and decision-making in the final third.

Finally, despite his inconsistent performances, Manchester United must stick with Antony. The Brazilian has demonstrated his potential, and his goals and assists have been crucial to the team. Antony can reach his full potential and become a great player for United if he receives the proper support and encouragement.
