Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s brother, claims that Thabo Bester threatened to kill him

The famous doctor Nandipha Magudumana’s brother claims he was unaware of the ambitious Thabo Bester jail escape attempt, the shady companies, and that he never met the “Facebook Rapist” in person.

Nkosinathi Sekeleni thinks Magudumana, who is now separated from her husband, Dr Mkhuseli Magudumana, was drawn into the mystery connection with Bester.

He said his sister was suffering from Stockholm Syndrome (a psychological condition in which a person kept hostage starts to identify with and sympathise with his or her captor) and was furious that she had exposed her two girls to Bester, “the monster.”

Bester, who was presented to Sekeleni as Magudumana’s New York-based business mentor, threatened to murder him on many occasions, according to Sekeleni, who talked to news network eNCA on Monday.

On one occasion, his wife and kid were forced to evacuate the R12 million Hyde Park house in the middle of the night after he got into a fight with Bester over the phone.

He said he discovered he was Bester and addressed him as Thabo Bester to demonstrate that he knew who he was.

Magudumana begged them all to leave since Bester would send hitmen after them, but Sekeleni refused.

“He was so arrogant. I said to him Thabo Bester and he said ‘yes Nathi’. I said to him ‘I’ve got you, I know who you are’.

“He said to me you can go to any publication and nothing will be done about it,” recalled Sekeleni.

He stated that this perplexed him and that he knew he was dangerous.

He also acknowledged to allegedly extorting money from his sister, but he blamed it on his inebriation, emotions, and disorientation at the time.

Sekeleni said he once asked Magudumana where she got the money to live in the lavish R12 million Hyde Park house, and she told him he had secured R700 million in finance from the Industrial Development Corporation for her enterprises.

     BETTER/NANDIPHA – RELATIONSHIP

Bester and Magudumana originally met in 2006 at Wits University, where Bester managed one of his mock modelling firms, according to KayaFM News.

Bester’s “promo girls” would be young Magudumana.

It is unknown whether he had already participated in his “Facebook Rapist” style of operation, in which he targeted young women in university and offered modelling, presenting, and TV employment with major media businesses.

He robbed and raped his victims.

Magudumana was also said to have kept in touch with Bester until 2011, and by 2013, she had married Doctor Magudumana.

Magudumana, who was now married, allegedly reconnected with Bester between 2016 and 2017.

It is unknown when the Magudumanas divided.

Sekeleni said he had never met Bester and had nothing to do with his prison escape attempt from Mangaung.

Magudumana and Bester were apprehended in Tanzania’s Arusha, along with a Mozambique national who was supporting them in their daring escape.

They are likely to return to the nation this week to face various charges in court

     WHISTLE  BLOWER

Sekeleni was one of the first to speak out against Bester in a now-deleted 2011 Facebook post, accusing his sister Magudumana of being in “daily contact” with Bester, “the monster.”

“Time to name and shame. Don’t be fooled by her looks and charm. Very evil this girl, Dr Nandipha Sekeleni Magudumana.

“She is in daily contact with this monster by the name of THABO BESTER once dubbed the FACEBOOK RAPIST doing a life sentence in #Grootvlei.

“She even exposes her two little daughters to this monster.

“In the outside world he goes by the name TK Nkwana. He was the sponsor of her event called #TheDoctorsNetwork and has been laundering money through her business #Optimunmedicalaesthetics.

“She has really dug herself into a hole. For a married woman having an affair with such a lowlife as this, she is a shame to the Sekeleni family.

“With this country fighting #GBV and #corruption we still have monsters like this operating on the outside while in prison.

“I have evidence in the form of recorded telephone calls. I’m posting this because two nights ago a gunman tried and failed to kill me, my wife and my child,” said Sekeleni on a now deleted Facebook post.

Sekeleni said he notified the Hawks about Bester via email and was also one of the people who sent information to the non-profit news agency GroundUp, which led to Bester’s arrest and subsequent confirmation that he did escape from prison and did not commit suicide after a fire at Cell 35 at the G4S-run Mangaung Correctional Centre.

Regarding his father’s incarceration, he expressed anxiety because both of his parents were diabetic, but he stated that the law had to take its place and that he had no idea why his father was detained.

    ARREST

Sekeleni expressed relief that Bester and Magudumana had been apprehended in Tanzania.

He claimed they lived in dread, always looking over their shoulders since no one knew where Bester was.

“I just want South Africa to know what happened,” said Sekeleni.

Early on Monday, police announced the arrests of Magudumana’s father, Mr Sekeleni, and Senohe Matsoara, a former prison officer who reportedly actively supported Bester in his escape from jail in May.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, a police spokeswoman, confirmed the arrests of Sekeleni and Matsoara, a former correctional services employee who reportedly supported Bester in escaping and who allegedly acquired an R600 000 Volkswagen T-Roc using bribe money provided by Bester.

Further arrests are likely, according to the police.

Both individuals have been charged with assisting and abetting a convicted prisoner’s escape from lawful custody, according to the police.
