Lerato Kganyago and Katlego Maboe to Host Metro FM Awards

Metro FM Awards are back after a five-year hiatus. The Awards will be hosted by two award-winning presenters Lerato Kganyago and Katlego Maboe.

Earlier in January The commercial radio station welcomed media and government leaders at The Capital Mbombela on Wednesday night to announce the return of the Metro FM Music Awards (MMAs) 2023.

“We are excited to bring back one of the SABC’s biggest events that is loved by millions of our audiences,” said Ms Nada Wotshela, Group Executive for SABC Radio.

The “Deal or No Deal” presenter said he is excited to host the awards. Moboe has had a rough few years after his cheating and abuse allegations made by his ex-girlfriend came to light. He took time off to deal with personal matters, he then went back to The Expresso Morning Show on 8th August 2022.

Now that Maboe will be hosting the awards alongside Kganyogo, he said this is probably one of the biggest gigs in his career.

Speaking to TshisaLive he said, “Music is quite a big part of my life, it’s through music that I found myself on television and entertainment at large. This is probably one of the biggest gigs I have bagged in my career. I am absolutely honoured and very excited, this is a huge gig,” he told TshisaLIVE.

“I have been doing this for quite some time and it’s something I believe is part of my DNA of who I am. Every single award show you present or any show, you approach with reverence.”

“I don’t take for granted the opportunities that have in recent times come knocking at my door through the support of people who’ve just stood by me, prayed for me, and helped me through the toughest times that these opportunities have come around.

He concluded, “I’m so grateful that I still have an opportunity to be part of what I believe is an incredible industry.”

The last edition of the awards, held at Durban’s ICC in 2017, was marred by controversy after the late Riky Rick chastised radio stations for failing to promote local talent and accused certain record labels of “buying” awards.
