Michele Pirro to replace Enea Bastianini at MotoGP Grand Prix

Michele Pirro, the Ducati test rider, is set to replace Enea Bastianini at the Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin, Texas after the latter suffered a right shoulder blade fracture during the MotoGP season-opener in Portugal last month. Despite missing the second round in Argentina, Bastianini recently underwent further checks in Forli, where it was confirmed that he would still require a few more weeks to fully recover. In his absence, Pirro, who last raced at the Circuit of the Americas in 2016 as a stand-in for Danilo Petrucci at Pramac Ducati, finishing in eighth place, will be stepping up. The Italian has raced eight times in the last three seasons with a best result of 11th.

The Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez is set to take place on April 30, and Bastianini will continue his rehabilitation in the meantime, with the aim of returning to the track for that race. Meanwhile, Honda’s six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has also been ruled out for the upcoming race in Austin, Texas, due to injury. He has been replaced by German test rider Stefan Bradl, who will ride alongside Spaniard Joan Mir. Bradl’s last race in Texas was also in 2016, with Aprilia.

Mir himself crashed in the Saturday sprint race in Argentina, which caused him to miss the main grand prix. However, he has since made a full recovery and stated that he is ready to get back on the bike in America. Injured Spaniard Pol Espargaro has also been replaced, with German rider Jonas Folger stepping in at the Gas Gas Factory Racing Tech3 team.

In summary, Pirro will replace Bastianini at the Grand Prix of the Americas, while Bradl will take Marquez’s place. Mir will ride for Honda alongside Bradl, and Folger will replace Espargaro at GasGas Factory Racing Tech3. Despite these changes, fans can still look forward to an exciting race in Austin, Texas, this weekend.
