Unstoppable Erling Haaland tipped to lead Man City to UEFA & EPL glory

Ahead of their UEFA Champions League second-leg clash against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, Manchester City are tipped to push Arsenal as they look to defend their English Premier League title.

The Citizens are banking on striker Erling Haaland who has already netted 47 goals for the club and he is regarded as one of the most lethal finishers – he scored twice in a 3-1 win over the weekend against Lesicester City.

Haaland set another record by becoming the first EPL player to score 47 times in a single season and the lanky Norwegian is set to reach more milestones in his first campaign in England.

Haaland crowned a remarkable City display with the third goal in his side’s 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal at Etihad Stadium last week.

It took him past the 44 goals that Manchester United’s Ruud van Nistelrooy and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah scored for their sides in 2002/03 and 2017/18 — but from only 39 games, 13 fewer than it took Van Nistelrooy and Salah.

As things stand, the last English top-flight player to net more in a single season was Clive Allen for Tottenham Hotspur in 1986/87 when he banged in 49 strikes and that will be Haaland’s next target.

“Every team has to fear this player because he is just a monster. He is a beast, congratulations to Manchester City for signing him,” former Bayern Munich and Germany striker Mario Gomez told BT Sport on Tuesday per TimesLIVE.

Haaland’s 45th goal against Bayern is regarded as his personal record too, for the 22-year-old who scored a total of 44 in 2019-20 (28 for Salzburg and 16 for Borussia Dortmund).

Coming back to the English domestic championship, Pep Guardiola’s side trails the Gunners by four points after the log leaders squandered a 2-0 lead versus West Ham.

In contrast, City were in an uncompromising mood as they demolished Leicester via a 3-1 scoreline as they have a game in hand.

Sheffield Star’s journalist Joe Crann talked to Eye Witness News and said he has never experienced tight title race and reckons Mikel Arteta’s men might not be under pressure.

“And I don’t think Arsenal are feeling the pressure, it’s just that Man City are unstoppable. When you talk about title-winning form, if you looked it up in the dictionary you would probably see a picture of Man City next to it,” he said.

“Arsenal have shown that they have the mettle and the ability to grind out games when they have to. The mentality for the long haul is there. Man City have the BMT and they have been there and done it all before. Arteta needs to calm the team down and remind them that they are the masters of their own destiny.”
