HOW TO SURVIVE A LONG-DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP

When you’re in a relationship, you will get to experience different challenges in your relationship. Being in a long-distance relationship is one of those challenges that most couples go through. You will get to know that you must work twice as hard to make the relationship work. Are you finding yourself wondering if your relationship will work since you are going into a phase of moving away from your partner?  and wondering whether it will work or not. Here are tips for how to maintain your relationship.

    Be clear about communication.

One of the healthiest traits that each person needs to have in a relationship is to be healthy in communication, especially when you are in a long-distance relationship. Because we tend to get tied up and being busy because of the distance, it’s likely common for your communication skills to take a dip and it will appear or seem like you are now communicating less than you normally would before you or your partner moved and that can have a significant negative impact on the relationship.

Try to come up with ways or solutions in order to get clarity on how many times or how often you and your partner will communicate and stick to that routine if not more, do it as much as you can so that you may not have feelings of t neglect. The option of giving up on each other or making assumptions should not be on the table.

    Set some ground rules.

Having some ground rules may seem challenging as one can feel prisoned or jailed but that shouldn’t be the case, having rules in a relationship will not only install discipline but it is also necessary for long-distance relationships for we are all human beings, not mind readers and that will help with managing each other’s expectations and also respecting each other’s boundaries.

    Don’t cheat.

This should not be an option in any relationship, whether it is built on both of you being apart you’re in a long-distance relationship or not, cheating isn’t right – not only because it breaks trust in your relationship but also because it increases the risks of you and your partner getting infected with STIs, including HIV. Be honest with your partner if you want to see other people and if the long-distance relationship is not working out for you.
