The SABC has been dealt a massive blow in the wake of veteran journalist, Abongile Dumako’s departure from the public broadcaster.
Dumako headed to social media and shared the news that he is parting ways with the Auckland Park-based state-owned broadcaster.
Born in the Eastern Cape, Dumako rose to prominence for his in-depth reporting on various topics such as South African and continental politics.
His voice was familiar to many SABC News consumers and he also displayed his talents on SABC radio in platforms such as Umhlobo Wenene FM.
Without giving all the details of his next destination, the seasoned reporter said he will become a spokesperson and it’s highly possible that he will work for the government.
“ANNOUNCEMENT: It is with mixed emotions to announce that I am leaving the SABC today, after 15 years of working for the Public Broadcaster,” said Dumako.
“It’s been a great journey for me, I’ll forever be grateful for the opportunities within the media industry. I’m sure our paths will cross, again. I will now work as a Communicator and Spokesperson.”
Bongi Maupi wrote: “Congratulations Skosana. Cheers to your new journey
Wonga Sirayi posted: “Oh Abosh mfethu. Thank you for serving the nation passionately. Ubaxelele ukuba ndikhona and ready to fill the gap.”
Didintle Mokokeletsi said: “All the best Abosh…a greater quest awaits thee. Growth is a vitality in life. Hamba kahle noThixo!!!”
Songezo Maqula replied: “All the best in your future endeavours Skhosana uwenze ngemfezeko umsebenzi wakho ngexesha ungumsasazi pha, sithi ke kuwe Huntshu!!!”
Dumako’s departure from the SABC comes after that of Thabile Mbhele and Lisakhanya Pepe who joined NewzRoom Afrika a few months ago.
Entertainment SA reported that Newzroom Afrika has poached a number of SABC News vernacular readers including the experienced and award-winning Mbhele.
Known for her voice in isiZulu bulletins, Mbhele has jumped the SABC ship together with isiXhosa bulleting reader, Pepe as they were recruited by the rival news channel.
