Spanish loyal servant Sergio Busquets leaving Barcelona

Barcelona’s greatest midfielder Sergio Busquets is set to leave the club at the end of the current Spanish La Liga season.

The Catalan-based club has confirmed the departure of the 34-year-old Busquets as he joined the club as a 15-year-old and went on to make over 700 appearances for the club.

After featuring in close to 1000 matches, he managed to lift 23 major trophies and that feat includes eight La Liga and three UEFA Champions League titles.

Despite being celebrated as a legend, Busquets remains a valuable member of the first team and has made at least 30 appearances in each of his 15 seasons with the senior squad.

“It has been an unforgettable journey,” he said in the video announcing his departure.

“Since I was a child coming to the matches, or watching them on TV, I always dreamed of playing with this shirt at this stadium.

“The reality has exceeded all my dreams. I wouldn’t have believed you if you told me when I arrived as a youth player that I would play 15 seasons for the best club in the world, the club of my life, of which I have been, am, and always will be a fan, member, player, captain, and surpass 700 matches.”

Entertainment SA Sport has gathered that his final match will be in a friendly against Vissel Kobe in Tokyo on June 6 – he is expected to receive a proper send-off.

Looking at this international career, the talented midfield general played in 143 matches for Spain and clinched the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa as well as the European Championship in 2012.

As things stand, he is on the verge of lifting the La Liga trophy as manager, Xavi is likely to win it on Sunday.
