Ex-Real Madrid skipper Benzema joins Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia

Information coming through to Entertainment SA Sport is that former Real Madrid skipper Karim Benzema has just joined Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

Social media posts reveal that the former Madrid striker and Ballon d’Or winner has completed his switch to Al-Ittihad on a three-year deal.

“Benzema has signed a contract for his transfer to Al-Ittihad for a three-year period starting next season,” the source said per SuperSport.

The announcement comes days after Los Blancos confirmed the departure of one of the most lethal strikers in the game.

Benzema, 35, left the Spanish side after spending 14 seasons in Madrid and he is now in line to face off against former Madrid teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo in the Gulf kingdom.

Ronaldo is contracted to Al Nassr after sensationally leaving English side, Manchester United following last year’s FIFA World Cup.

In other news, former Barcelona midfielder Lionel Messi – who is leaving Paris Saint-Germain after two seasons – is another big name linked to a move to Saudi Arabia.

Looking at the France international’s statistics, Benzema joined Madrid in 2009 from Ligue 1 side Lyon and notched 647 appearances for the club to become the second on Real’s all-time goalscoring list with 353 – behind Ronaldo.

During his stay, he managed to lift five UEFA Champions League, four La Liga, and three Copa del Rey trophies and is the current holder of the Ballon d’Or for the world’s best player.

However, he had his fair share of injury setbacks in the most recent season under manager Carlo Ancelotti as he had to miss France’s World Cup campaign with a thigh problem.
