In a twist of events, it seems Argentina skipper Lionel Messi will finally make his long-awaited return to Barcelona and snub Saudi Arabia.
Messi is leaving French side, Paris St. Germain and according to his father’s sentiments, the talented midfielder will decide his future this week.
Messi’s father, Jorge is quoted by various media outlets, saying he recently met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
Following that meeting, Jorge confirmed that a decision on the FIFA World Cup winner’s future will be made on either Tuesday or Wednesday.
It is no secret that Messi will leave PSG this summer and he is keen on making a return to the reigning La Liga champions.
After that meeting, Jorge confirmed that his son wants to play for Barca next season and there is optimism that a deal can be done.
However, the 35-year-old has also been offered an eye-watering contract in Saudi Arabia that would make him the highest-earning player on the planet.
Entertainment SA Sport also reported that Messi has accepted an offer from Saudi side, Al Hilal, and his father also revealed to Jijantes FC that, with Barca’s financial viability plan expected to be approved by La Liga – a final decision on Messi’s future will be made imminently.
“The decision will be known this Tuesday or Wednesday,” Jorge confirmed.
According to 90min, Barcelona’s transfer wishes are expected to be given the green light imminently, but Barcelona does have plenty of other business to attend to.
Meanwhile, PSG are also set to part ways with former Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos and he is also linked with a move to high-paying Saudi Premier League.
Furthermore, once Messi has finalised his decision, it is reported that the club wants to sign centre-back Inigo Martinez, who will leave Athletic Club as a free agent this summer.
