Maps Maponyane excited to work with veteran filmmaker Akin Omotoso

After clinching a gig as the host of The Picture Perfect, a celebrity reality show heading to e.tv on July 23, Maps Maponyane reflects on the romantic comedy he recently produced.

Maponyane is excited to have worked with veteran actor and filmmaker Akin Omotoso as he was the executive producer of Courting Anathi.

The romantic comedy premiered on Viu at the beginning of this month and Maponyane said he worked with an incredible cast.

Directed by the former Generations actor, Omotoso, Maps is excited to have gained such an opportunity to work with the legend.

“My film, which I was fortunate to be an executive producer of, is directed by Akin Omotoso and has an incredible cast. It’s a romance/comedy that’s based in the corporate world. It’s a beautiful story and journey that came out on Viu last week,” he told TshisaLIVE.

The son of former Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs footballer, Marks Maponyane, said working with Omotoso was an eye-opening experience.

He labelled Omotoso as a phenomenal man, an incredible human, wonderfully rounded, and spectacularly talented.

He added that he was fortunate that he directed the first film Tell Me Sweet Something he acted in and they have developed a strong bond since then.

“I call him coach because everything he does or says I try to learn from as much as possible and that’s how our relationship grew to produce this film,” he added.

“From learning from him that was an opportunity to be able to create this, anything he is a part of, I’m just like take all my money.

“I think he is one of those once-in-a-generation types of directors, especially after doing Hollywood films like Rise, where he did the biopic story on Giannis, Thanasis, and Kostas Antetokounmpo and how well that did on Disney.”

Meanwhile, Entertainment SA previously reported that the television host shared pictures of how his mother survived an accident along the N3 highway.

The pictures posted on social media indicated that he nearly lost his mommy as her car was seen as badly damaged – the media personality headed to Twitter to upload the snaps.

Posted in February, Maponyane said he was grateful after his mother survived a car accident unharmed and he has urged his social media friends to take care on the roads.
