    Liverpool appoints a NEW CAPTAIN!

    The English club, Liverpool has made the announcement that it has appointed Virgil van Dijk as the new captain for the club, with Trent Alexander-Arnold appointed as vice-captain.

    Also the captain of the Netherlands, the tall centre-back will be taking over the full-time occupancy of the armband following the departure of Jordan Henderson from the Reds.

    Adding to the great leadership news, the club also went on to announce Alexander-Arnold as deputy to the captaincy, taking over the responsibility from James Milner.

    In the past five years, Van Dijk has been one of Liverpool’s most influential players. Apart from his leadership, the 32-year-old is organised in defence, can deal with one on one situations and is good in the air.

    Telling Liverpoolfc.com, Van Dijk said it’s really a proud day for him, his wife, his kids, and his family. “It’s been a special feeling and I can’t really describe it at this point. But it’s something that I’m really, really proud of.”

    He added by saying: “It’s just something that makes me very proud and I will do everything in my power and what I can do to make everyone proud and happy with me and the football club.”

    The footballer has played 222 games for Liverpool since moving to Anfield from Southampton in January 2018. During that time, the Dutch player has collected seven winner’s medals as he helped the Reds lift the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and the FA Community Shield.

    Liverpool will be playing their opening game against Chelsea in the next two weeks.
