Today Vodacom Origin of Golf (VOOG) launched its 2023 premier pro series and celebrated 20 years in the game with partner Sunshine Tour.

In Celebration, Vodacom and Sunshine renewed their partnership for three more years. The telecommunications giants in partnership with Sunshine Tour will include ten Sunshine Ladies Tour professionals to compete in the same tournament alongside male Sunshine Tour professionals. The inclusion will allow the women the same opportunity to win the same prize money as their male counterparts.

This comes after South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said, this has been a great year in women’s sports in South Africa.

“Our female athletes have reached new heights across a number of sporting codes, and we have hosted several women’s international sports tournaments.
 
“Our nation’s sportswomen have proven themselves, time and again. It is up to us, as a society, to provide the necessary environment that will enable a new generation of women and girls to thrive and excel in sport,” the President said. 

The President went on to say, “As government, we want to increase the representation of women in sport and to promote the development of women’s sports both through mass participation and at an elite level.

Speaking in a media briefing and launch of the VOOG 2023 premier pro series, Andisa Ntsubane, Managing Executive for Brand, Marketing and Sponsorships at Vodacom South Africa said, “We are delighted to announce a landmark feature which will see Sunshine Ladies Tour professionals competing alongside Sunshine Tour professionals in pursuit of the same prize. This goes a long way in efforts to bridge the divide between the gender parity gap and is aligned to Vodacom’s pillar of Inclusion for All. Vodacom is also proud to announce the renewal of the Vodacom Origins of Golf series for a further three-years.”

“The Vodacom Origins of Golf series remains a valuable tool for interaction with our customers as they share the fairways with the professionals, but also to meet our objectives of always making an impact in our communities.

“Since the start of this series in 2004, it has been closely aligned with our overall objectives of supporting the elite professional game in South Africa while at the same time growing the game through the golf clinics at every tournament with young golfers from that area.

He concluded, “We are a company that turns problems into possibilities, with the clear messaging to Turn to Us to be empowered.”

Vodacom Origin of Golf aims to bring inclusivity and spread the word about golf throughout the country, and teach young South African about the beauty of the sport.

The Vodacom Origins of Golf has been the platform for a selection of South African golf stars to launch their careers.
