The Nigerian born Afrobeats star, Ayo Balogun, commonly known as Wizkid, recently lost his mother, and he has revealed that her passing was the deepest pain he had ever felt in his life.
Jane Dolapo Balogun, Wizkid’s mother, died on the 18th of August 2023 in London. The Afrobeat star said the pain of losing his mum ‘hurts deeply’.
At his mother’s wake-keep ceremony which took place on Thursday, Wizkid said: “The pain is profound. It hurts deeply. The deepest pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I’m lost but I pray God will comfort everyone of us,” according to Pulse Nigeria.
A candlelight procession in honour of the singer’s mum was held on Wednesday, making it Wizkid’s first public appearance following a nearly month-long period of silence as he grieved the loss of his mother.
In 2014, Wizkid dedicated a song ‘Mummy Mi’, off his ‘Ayo’ album dedicated to mothers across the world.
