‘It’s A Dream Of Every Player’: Djokovic Honoured As Year-End No. 1

In a ceremony at the bustling Pala Alpitour on Monday afternoon, Novak Djokovic was honored for achieving the coveted ATP Year-End No. 1 presented by Pepperstone. ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi presented the Serbian tennis legend with the prestigious trophy, marking his record eighth year-end No. 1 finish.

Expressing his gratitude, Djokovic acknowledged the significance of finishing the year as the top-ranked player, stating, “Obviously it’s the crown of the season, finishing the year as No. 1 in the world. I think it’s a dream of every tennis player. It’s one of the most difficult things to do in our sport. Obviously winning Grand Slams and being No. 1 in the world are probably the pinnacles of the sport.”

Reflecting on the challenges of the year, Djokovic thanked his team for their support, emphasizing the collective effort involved in achieving such a milestone. He recognized the hard work of his coaching staff, physiotherapist, fitness coach, and others who have been integral to his success.

Djokovic secured his eighth year-end No. 1 finish in the early hours of Monday morning by defeating Holger Rune in their first Green Group match at the Nitto ATP Finals. This accomplishment extends his own record as the oldest ATP Year-End No. 1, a title he first claimed at the age of 34 and has now surpassed at the age of 36.

Looking ahead, Djokovic is set to continue his campaign at the Nitto ATP Finals, facing home favourite Jannik Sinner as he aims to secure a record seventh title at the prestigious season finale.
