Actor Jamie Foxx has been accused of sexual assault. Foxx is confronting charges of sexual assault and battery in a lawsuit filed in the New York State Supreme Court.
The alleged incident transpired in 2015 at Catch NYC, a popular restaurant in New York City, as outlined in the complaint obtained by CNN.
The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, contends in the lawsuit that Foxx “intentionally and without consent used force to offensively touch Plaintiff’s person,” involving the groping of her breasts and genitals. The complaint continued that Foxx appeared “intoxicated” during the incident.
As a consequence, the lawsuit indicates that the woman has endured and continues to suffer “physical and emotional injuries, anxiety, distress, embarrassment, and economic harm,” seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
Additionally, the plaintiff is suing the restaurant’s parent company, Catch Hospitality Group, and other related entities as defendants for negligent hiring, training, and supervision.
This legal action was initiated under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which became effective in late November 2022, enabling adult survivors of sexual abuse to pursue legal action against their abusers in New York, even if the statute of limitations on their claims had lapsed. The law granted adult survivors one year to file lawsuits against their perpetrators.
Earlier this year, Foxx experienced a medical episode, leading to hospitalization in Atlanta for an undisclosed condition. The Oscar-winner addressed his recovery for the first time in July.
Foxx’s case is the latest in the industry where male musicians are getting sued for sexual assault. R&B singer Cassie made headlines against her ex-boyfriend, Sean “Diddy” Combs, for rape and physical abuse for over a decade. Cassie’s lawsuit was filed for $30 million.
