Mr Thela shuts it down at Abantu event, and showcases new album

In a dazzling turn of events, Cape Town’s own DJ and producer, Mr Thela, recently took center stage at Zakes Bantwini’s Abantu concert, not only captivating the audience but also revealing exciting news about his forthcoming album.

Originally scheduled for a daytime performance, the 24-year-old Simphiwe Sihawu unexpectedly secured the coveted closing slot, much to the delight of his fans.

Grateful for the experience, Mr Thela expressed his thanks, stating, “Closing the set comes with a lot of pressure, but we delivered what people wanted – great music.”

Fresh from a triumphant two-week tour in the United Kingdom, where he showcased his talents in Birmingham and London, Mr Thela is breaking away from the popular duo Mshayi & Thela, making waves with his solo career.

His debut solo project, ‘Tronics Land Series 1,’ garnered accolades and paved the way for the highly anticipated ‘Tronics Land Series 2,’ released on November 17, receiving widespread acclaim.

The album, featuring 16 tracks with Amapiano heavyweights Njelic, Leehleza, and Kammu Dee, promises a musical journey transcending genres.

Despite facing challenges in navigating the delicate balance between teasing unreleased music and meeting high expectations, Mr Thela’s dedication to evolving as an artist is evident as he ventures into the global music scene.

Sharing insights from his UK tour, the Cape Town Gqom pioneer stressed the importance of thinking globally in the internet age, drawing from his experience at SONY Music UK to highlight the need for South African artists to plan beyond local boundaries.

Adapting to new audiences, Mr Thela successfully connected through music during the tour. As he gears up for a local tour starting in Durban and spanning major cities, he assures his supporters of “nothing but great entertainment” from his new album.

With a music video in the works and plans for additional releases, Mr Thela is not just an artist but a formidable presence in the evolving landscape of South African music. So, mark your calendars for November 17 as ‘Tronics Land Series 2’ drops, promising to be the soundtrack of the upcoming festive season.
