    Three Decades later, Tracy Chapman becomes first black female CMA winner for ‘Fast Car’

    The American singer-songwriter known for her soulful voice and poignant lyrics, Tracy Chapman has made history in the music industry, as her song ‘Fast Car’ has just won the Country Music Award for Song of the Year.

    Three Decades later since the song hit the radio stations, only now it song has achieved a spike in recent popularity. A cover by Luke Combs has more than 13 million views, and has been partially credited for the song’s current recognition.

    In the preceding years, notable recipients of awards in this category included Jordan Davis’ “Buy Dirt” for the previous year, and in 2022, the top album honour went to Luke Combs. The acknowledgment for the song written by Chapman follows the resurgence of the track in mainstream playlists, driven by Luke Combs’ cover.
