AKA’s killers arrested, paid R800k for the hit.
There is some light on the AKA case. South African authorities have apprehended all six suspects allegedly responsible for the high-profile murder of hip-hop star AKA. Police Minister Bheki Cele confirmed the arrests, saying the final two alleged masterminds were found hiding out in Eswatini this past weekend after months on the run.
According to police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the suspects played various roles in the February 2022 shooting of AKA and his friend Tibz in Durban. One allegedly helped coordinate the hit, two were identified as shooters, another surveilled AKA, and two more provided vehicles and firearms. it is said that they received R800k to complete the hit.
Some suspects were already in custody from last year, but the recent capture of the presumed ringleaders marks a major break in the case. In total, police recovered four cars and numerous guns tied to the murders.
Authorities are confident in the strength of evidence against the six accused killers, who will appear in court this Thursday. Minister Cele expressed hope saying these arrests will finally bring justice and closure for AKA’s loved ones and fans after a year-long investigation.
Though motives remain unclear, police believe they now have all those criminally responsible for the high-profile slaying in custody.
