In today’s said news, the planned performances by Nigerian superstar Ayra Starr at the In The City events in Joburg and Cape Town have unfortunately been cancelled because her visa application was denied by South African authorities.
In an official statement, Steyn Management and In The City event organizers expressed regret over the cancellation of 21-year-old artist’s shows scheduled for February 16th and 17th, revealing the visa denial news, which is a recurring issue faced by artists from West Africa. Managing Director Dale De Ruig explained that this situation, unfortunately, wasn’t the first time such challenges had occurred, referencing past instances with other artists like Wizkid and DJ Maphorisa.
Ayra Starr, the Grammy-nominated artist, was supposed to be headlining the In The City music and lifestyle event. The event, featuring other artists like Daliwonga, Musa Keys, Cuito, Una Rams, and Kat Upendi, was organized in collaboration with Steyn Entertainment and Flying Fish, with support from Maybelline.
Despite the inconvenience caused by the cancellation, organizers apologized and assured attendees that refunds would be processed within seven days. This setback follows Ayra Starr’s canceled appearance at Rocking the Daises last year.
