Kekana gives a great laugh as he greets the Ivorian staff alongside his Bafana teammates

South Africans on social media found joy in a video capturing the Bafana Bafana squad’s arrival at their accommodation after their victorious AFCON 2023 quarter-final against Cape Verde. The clip portrays a heartwarming scene as the players are welcomed with a guard of honor and standing ovation from the staff at the village in Bouake, Citè Can, Ivory Coast.

The video begins with goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, a hero of the match, disembarking and exchanging greetings with the workers. Players from Mamelodi Sundowns, including Teboho Mokoena and Ricardo Goss, follow right behind.

Grant Kekana, the spirited Masandawana defender, steals the spotlight with his energetic greeting. Displaying his French-speaking skills, Kekana smiles, waves, and enthusiastically shouts “bonjour” several times, even if the pronunciation may not be perfect. The staff appreciates the soccer star’s lively interaction.

Bafana Bafana secured a spot in the AFCON semi-finals by defeating Cape Verde in a penalty shoot-out. Ronwen Williams, the team captain and goalkeeper, played a pivotal role by saving four penalties in the 0-0 draw against the Blue Sharks. Williams’ spectacular late save during the quarterfinal ensured the match entered extra time, further solidifying his standing as a contender for the Best Goalkeeper award at the conclusion of the tournament.
