Mpho ‘Popps’ Modikoane is a busy man. The multi-talented South African personality has been revealed as the host of the 11th Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards.
Reflecting on the state of comedy in the country, he remarked, “Much like our nation, our comedy scene faced challenges, and everyone has had to pitch in to rebuild its foundation.”
Themed ‘You Think You Know South Africa’, the 11th edition promises to be a comedy extravaganza, set to take place at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City on April 13.
“Just as South Africa relies on each of us to contribute to its progress, we comedians draw inspiration from the everyday absurdities of our country. It’s high time we gave back to it, albeit with our unique blend of affection and comedic irreverence.”
Popps won’t be alone on stage; he’ll be joined by comedic powerhouses like Celeste Ntuli, Khanyisa Bunu, and Robby Collins, ensuring a night of stand-up gold.
In a departure from tradition, each winner of the 12 prestigious award categories will undergo the usual acceptance speech in favour of a five-minute stand-up routine, promising a night filled with laughter and comedic brilliance.
“This year’s theme perfectly aligns with Savanna Premium Cider’s philosophy,” remarked Kayla Hendricks, Senior Brand Manager at Savanna Premium Cider, the event’s sponsor since 2012. “Much like the comedians we honor, Savanna employs humor to provide a refreshing, witty take on our surroundings.”
Adding to the excitement, Comedy Central has come on board as the official television partner for the first time, promising to broadcast a TV Special highlighting all the memorable moments from the event a few weeks later.
Tickets for the 2024 Savanna Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards are now available, with prices starting at R195.
Don’t miss out on what promises to be an unforgettable evening of laughter and celebration!
