This past weekend, the 55th annual National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) awards took place this past weekend in California, and one of the winners included Damson Idris.

The Hollywood star won the NAACP Award for Outstanding Actor in a drama series. In his acceptance speech for the award, Idris revealed that his mother flew from Lagos, Nigeria, 17-hour long flight. That is an amazing support system.

He also jokingly made it clear that the stakes for his mom to be there were quite high because before she got on the plane, she told him: “Damsey, if I come to Los Angeles, you better win.”

While thanking the NAACP for the win, Damson Idris also made a funny side note directed at Denzel Washington, saying: “Hopefully Denzel Washington knows who I am now” and the whole room burst out into laughter.

The comment made by Idris follows an interview that was previously done by The Shade Room on the red carpet with Denzel Washington where the reporter was asking him how he feels about Idris going viral for impersonating him, and he said he had no idea who Damson Idris was, “but no disrespect Damson”.

It would be very interesting to see the two stars actually create something together.
