In a recent interview with Hits Radio, Grammy-winning British singer Ed Sheeran dropped some intriguing things about his hit song “Shape Of You” and its muse. According to Sheeran, Barbadian superstar Rihanna was the inspiration behind the chart-topper.
“Rihanna is genre-less, she can do anything. She’s the grail for songwriters. When I wrote Shape Of You, the person I was writing in my mind for was Rihanna,” Sheeran revealed.
Released on January 6, 2017, “Shape Of You” emerged as a lead single from Ed Sheeran’s third studio album, ‘Divide.’ The track went on to clinch the Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, announcing its place in music history.
Sheeran also spilled the beans about another famous hit he wrote. He disclosed that he originally wrote Justin Bieber’s smash hit, ‘Love Yourself,’ which initially faced rejection by numerous artists before Bieber made it his own.
