King Monada, known offstage as Khutso Steven Kgatle, is facing heat from the Limpopo Arts Movement (LAM) organizers for bailing on two events. Despite being paid, the South African musician skipped out on his performances, first in November 2022 and then at the LILA Awards in 2023, which he had committed to at no extra charge.
Thobejane Attorneys, representing LAM chairperson Mpho ‘Mphoza’ Mashabela, are demanding R60,000 from King Monada for his no-shows. They claim to have paid him R35,000 for the event where he didn’t perform, and are seeking an additional R10,000 for damages and R15,000 for legal fees.
In response, Monada’s lawyers, Maloka Sebola Inc., are ready to defend him against the lawsuit. In a letter signed by his manager Makwela, Monada reiterated his commitment to perform at the next LILA Awards, with no increase in fee despite the previous mishap.
